Getting Started at Fantasy Faire 2024

A woman with shiny black hair tied back gazes into the distance. In her right hand she holds a floating golden cube covered in curious carvings. In the background, a field is covered in memorial candles, a few of them are lit.

Fantasy Faire 2024 in Second Life opened up Thursday. So far, I have only been able to poke around Fairelands Junction a bit. But, today I hope to be able to thoroughly explore at least a couple of the twenty regions.

For those who haven’t encountered Fantasy Faire as yet, it’s an annual event where some of the best builders in Second Life construct whole regions filled with amazing creations. Most of these regions host shopping. It’s all in support of Relay for Life. Over the years, Fantasy Faire have raised serious funds for the cause. If I heard right on FF Radio last night, they had already raised more than L$4M in two days!

Several very tall stone gateways stand before some trees in the background. Other, completely different places can be seen through the gateways. In the foreground, a signpost points various directions to other regions and features to visit. Information kiosks sit between the stone gates. The misty trail of a wisp can be seen in the lower-left.

I can see immediately that the theme for Fairelands Junction is quite different this year. Last year’s was all about ice, frost, and crystals. This year, our Fairelands journeys begin on a grassy outcrop surrounded by tall stone dimension gates to the other regions. A misty wood surrounds the outcrop. The feel is much more temperate than arctic this time.

About the landing area are signs that direct one to adjacent regions as well as to the worldlings exhibits and the LitFest tours.

Information kiosks are found between the gates. These provide information on:

  • The Masked Ball, an annual formal that will be held this year on Saturday the 27th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (all times SLT) and Friday May 3rd from 12:00 noon t 2:00 PM.
  • The Fairelands Quest, which this year is titled “The Seven Layers of Joy”. That sounds promising!
  • Arts & Entertainment, information about performances and the art gallery.
  • Live at the Fairechylde, the traditional Fantasy Faire party ship has sailed back into the Fairelands. This page provides bios of the many, many DJs that will be performing there.
  • LitFest Tours, these are some of my most fave events during Fantasy Faire! Look to this page for a full schedule of tours of all the Fantasy Faire 2024 regions.
  • Shopping Guide, and of course, since most regions are shopping, the shopping guide is your source for FF shopping. There are links to a full list of merchants and, specific galleries for men’s shopping as well as wares for non-human avatars.

That’s enough wandering about the landing area. Off to start exploring!
