SL20B – Exhibitor Showcase Regions: Alluring & Daring

The great ringed SL20B planet hangs just above a railing toward the right side of the picture as it sets into some clouds. Low in the sky, it is pale with swirls of cloud just visible. It's rings are light blue and purple. To the left side of the picture, a wonam wearing a cyberpunk visor stands looking to the right. The sky behind her is light blue with faint stars.

The exhibits in the adult areas appear to be larger on average than those in the main regions. I’m not sure why. Maybe not so many adult groups stepped up to do exhibits? I’m uncertain how likely that is given that the sizes of the parcels had to be determined pretty early on. Whatever the reason, large they are and some of the displays have made positive use of that.

Alluring

Exhibitors

  • Eve Terr – Velvet Thorn Femdom Community
  • Ash Sullivan – Tiptonik – Deviant Tranquility
  • ღBrace Brightflame™ღ (castedone2) – Topless Sailors Cruising Club
  • Irish Breen – Happy Birthday, and Painting Our Future
  • Jdb.Bing – New Frontiers
  • AresEnkida – Ares in Second Life
  • Callipygian Christensen – Skin – Then and Now

The Velvet Thorn

A woman with long cyan hair wearing a cyan outfit sits on a large, well upholstered lounge chair reading a tablet. The chair sits on a deck of broad, weathered wooden planks. Across the deck from the chair is a pile of seating cushions. Past a small group of cattails, a strip of shallow water can be seen. In the background, floating golden letters spell "VELVET THORN". Black, blue, and gold balloons float above the letters. Behind them, a rock wall rises.

Since 2008, The Velvet Thorn has provided a safe place for people to explore femdom play. The notecard is headed “Femdom at its most lighthearted.” It also lists five absolute golden rules, the last of which is “Be polite. Live and let live.” Doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

The exhibit itself is built around a shallow tropical lagoon. There are plenty of places to sit and chat, some hidden away a bit. There’s even a dance pole if you’re so inclined.

Touch one of the tent signs for the notecard.

The Gorean Whip

Viewed from about 20 meters up, a broad blue and white gingham cloth covers most of the parcel. In the foreground, a blue celebratory horn and "Happy Birth Day!" napkin bordered in bright colours sit. A low platform sits in the middle of the parcel resembling a giant sheet cake labeled "Happy Birthday Second Life". Panels with pictures line the near side of the platform. In the background, a birthday party hat and container of ice cream sit. Off to the left is a rack of cupcakes.

Goreans have been a significant presence in Second Life almost as long (longer?) than furries. I remember reading in some history of Second Life that one of the first big conflicts between residents in SL was the Goreans vs. the Furries.

That’s all by the by. The Gorean Whip is a Second Life radio station that has been going for over thirteen years. Here they have set up a very bright and cheerful happy birthday display for Second Life. Along the front of the platform are pictures, information panels and social media links, as well as URLs for the radio station.

New Frontiers Sci-Fi RP

Under a dark blue sky that faces to light at the horizon, a small collection of structures sits around a paved area. In the left background are two joined, container houses with corrugated walls. On the right, a building or vessel of unknown purpose, dark gray with diagonal orange stripes on the left end. In the center background is some kind of cargo vehicle with a couple of crates loaded. In the left foreground is what looks like a blue generator and to the right of that, a small container garden.

“Welcome to ONIA: The Way Life Should Be” reads the sign at the entrance. Apparently founded in 2694 A.D..

Walking in to what at first appears to be a large hanger like structure – it’s actually the opened central section of a space ship – you are presented with a number of information terminals, displays about the known space of the time, what races you may roleplay, and weblinks for more. Some photo display show some scenes of the region.

Continuing out the back, you walk into what looks like the beginnings of a colony on a new world. Small, container like housing, carefully protected gardens, machines harnessing wind energy while others appear to be conducting some kind of mining or drilling.

Oh I see, they’re not drilling, they’re thumping. Where thumpers in Dune summon sand worms, these are thought to drive the local megafauna away. I presume that those critters are unwelcome for sounds reasons.

Really no idea why this is in the adult section, unless they liked the fact they could get a really large parcel here. There’s nothing here to blush at in the least. The home regions for the group are adult rated. It’s probably that not everything that goes on there has been depicted in the exhibit.

Topless Sailors Cruising Club

This appears, from the several illustrations and the flag over the building’s doorway, to be pretty much exactly like it sounds. They apparently hold weekly cruises every Monday. Logs and maps in the building. Touch the tent sign outside for information.

Images By Calli

Now this is more what I imagine people are expecting from the adult exhibit regions. Images by Calli is a mixed open-air/indoor gallery of very explicit inworld photos that run a gamut of tastes. Putting on my art critic beret, which I’m quite unqualified to wear, I can’t say that I see anything I’d like to hang in my Linden Home. What you like may be very different of course.

Deviant Tranquility

In a field of bright, tall grass, several clusters of glowing blue crystals rise 1 to 2 meters from the ground. In the middle of these, a thicket of brightly coloured luminous plants grows above the grass. A woman wearing a cyan outfit stands amongst these plants. Behind her, a tall plant grows a couple of meters high. It has orange fronds that drop from two stalks, fading to yellow at their ends. Three leaved pink-orange flowers top the display.
I sure hope this isn’t some kind of ornamental triffid!

A group and inworld location with Beaches, a Cave, waterfalls, lakeside relaxation, shops and more! Here they’ve set up a little slice of alien parkland. It looks like a small talk show set has been put together in a small geodesic dome. Luminous alien plants grow amongst tall blue crystals.

Triniza the Elven Banquet

A long banquet table sits between many chairs of complex design. The circular platform on which the table and chairs have been placed is bordered all around with fountains and floating spheres. I can find no information about this display.

Ares in Second Life

A series of large panels show scenes from the exhibitor’s time in second life. The description notes that they are all unedited. The scenes depicted range from sci-fi to fantasy, ancient historical settings, medieval, to scantily clad Spartan warriors. The constant is that Ares choice of avatar is reliably beefy and well-muscled 😉.

Daring

Mahasiah Models Agency

Nine highly stylized chairs sit in the foreground in a large concrete room. The left and right walls of the room are glass and blue sky can be seen through them. Directly in front of the chairs is a blue stage with six steps ascending to it built in large square platforms of diminishing size. The backdrop for the stage is a diagonally oriented square frame, perhaps 3 meters high. A dozen more such frames are inset and rotated forming a spiraling pattern. In the center is a light sculpture with blue and purple lobes surrounding a central void.

Mahasiah Models has, according to their notecard, been a modeling agency in Second Life for some thirteen years. I’m uncertain about the business model of agencies like this. But if you touch the monitor inside on the lower floor, you’ll get the notecard and landmark.

SL20B Viking Tribe Ragnarök Empire of the Night Einherjar

View from above a wooded clearing. In a circle of standing stones, several long tables have been set for a feast. An over grown stone path can be seen leading from the bottom of the image into the stone circle. To the left of the path, deer are grazing. To the right, a jumble of large rocks sits. Watch towers have been constructed further out on either side. In the distance, tall standing rocks rise. Stone sword statues have been carved, their points buried in the lower rocks.

This display is all about Viking roleplay, which is a thing in Second Life that I had not been aware of, though I should hardly be surprised.

In circle of standing stones surrounded by trees and larger rocks and tall trees, a festival banquet has been laid. Several tables are covered in food and plates. Thrones are set at either end of the circle. Glowing magic runes slowly rotate above the standing stones. All about are statues and monoliths with runes carved upon them. Apparently, this is a place of great power.

Touch the barrel near the entrance for a mug of grog and a landmark.

Rainbow Sails Yacht Club

A couple of sailing yachts are moored in slips while many more slips sit empty. Everybody’s already headed back out to sea?

From the description: “A Yacht club for LGBT community and allies. We are unique for being a member run group with elected officers based on democratic principles. We run weekly cruises and events for the fun of it and to create a better more inclusive future.”

Touch the sign at the central dock for a landmark or group join link.

Toxxnews – SL20B – Avatar’s EVOLUTION

Touch the signs at the entry area for a weblink. Then stroll past Primatar and Ruth to view pictures of many of the starter avatars we’ve all seen about Second Life at some time or other. Touch each for more information.

GYC – Adult Furry Club

GYC are a LGBTQ+ friendly furry group. Touch the shield on the back wall where the history of GYC is displayed. You’ll get landmarks and other objects.

Here, GYC have set up a dace floor, DJ deck, dance poles, and other places to relax. All very quiet now of course.

The Feline Conspiracy – C.A.T. Augmentation

Apparently this place is in the business of conversion of plain old avatars into adult nekos. There’s a clinic where part of the process takes place. It looks like parts of it may be traumatic.

Touch the magazine at the reception desk for a gift.

(I know what you’re thinking. “Alta, you almost never tell us what the gifts are!” That’s true. I’m afraid I become totally focused on exploring during the event and I just pile all the swag up in a folder. For weeks after SL20B I’ll be unpacking and repacking stuff up. Then I’ll find out what all the gifts are.)

Progeny Vampire

A large round room with a domed ceiling supported by three rings of fluted columns is decorated in deep red. The back wall, visible between half a dozen pillars, has a large banner reading "Progeny". Display cases have been placed all around the outer ring. In the center, a red stone circle is divided into a dozen or so slices, each with symbols written on it.

Vampire roleplay has been around in Second Life for at least as long as I can remember. (And since I’m quite a bit younger than SL, probably long before I came on the scene).

Judging by the names inscribed around the central circle in the floor, this is a roleplay community of many clans. Around this circle, a number of artifacts from the roleplay world are displayed. Touch the book in the Progeny Podcast display case for more information.

Setites Clan RP at SL20B

Another vampire roleplay group have set up this display, which appears to have information about a lot of things, including GTFO on Zindra?, biker parties, The Dungeon, and BDSM News.
